The Denver Broncos final training camp practice had some drama in it as Derek Wolfe suffered an ankle injury that many thought was a serious leg injury.

Denver Broncos training camp has come to an end on Saturday. But the team did not come away healthy as one of the key members of the defense suffered an injury during the practice.

Derek Wolfe was carted off the field during the final practice. He could not put any weight on his leg. Many thought the injury was serious. The freakout was underway. Denver does not need another big time injury to a key defensive star.

However, it was later on reported that the injury in question was an ankle sprain. So, a sigh of relief to everyone in Broncos Country. However, from my experience, ankle injuries can be tricky to deal with.

We even got a nice visual of what Derek Wolfe’s ankle looks like via his Twitter. He blames it all on the cleats.

There is currently no timetable for his return. However, with all of the injuries that the Denver Broncos defense has suffered recently, I think it would be wise for Vance Joseph to just let Derek Wolfe sit for the remainder of the preseason. In fact, they should do their best to rest the veteran players on the defense. If not, let them play a series or two.

With Billy Winn out for the year with an ACL injury, keeping the health of the Broncos defense is more important than ever. Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch were unimpressive in the first preseason game. And one of them is going to be named starter.

If this offense is a mirror image of 2016, then the defense is going to be very important to keep healthy.

Wishing you the best in your recovery Derek Wolfe!
