With Trevor Siemian’s first preseason game in the books, I take a look at his performance during his time on the field against the Chicago Bears.

The quarterback position is underway in Chicago. Trevor Siemian was named the starter for the game tonight against the Bears. After fourteen games in 2016, it was intriguing to see how Trevor Siemian would perform in the first preseason game of the quarterback battle.

Trevor Siemian’s final stat line was six completions on seven attempts for 51 yards. He did not throw a touchdown pass or throw an interception. In my opinion on his stats, he was okay for having played a quarter and a half.

But watching him on the field, I have to say I did not see anything flashy or impressive. His longest pass went for eleven yards to Demaryius Thomas. It was a solid pass right to him.

With the help of Sayre Bedinger, I will look at each of his passes.

His first snap resulted in him getting hit hard for a sack. Menelik Watson takes the responsibility for the sack. He was clearly beat. On his pass to Emmanuel Sanders that went deep, it looked good. But it was a tough one to catch. It would not have mattered either way because it was nullified by offsetting penalties.

After that pass, Trevor Siemian seemed like the same quarterback that he was last season. A lot of passes that were within the three to seven yard range. But he did have a solid pass to Jordan Taylor on his final pass. But Taylor was stopped short of the sticks. The ensuing third down play was bad as Stevan Ridley was stuffed.

Overall Performance

Overall, I think Trevor Siemian did okay, but he was not impressive for the most part. Similar to what we saw at the end of the year. If Siemian can gain more confidence throwing the football down the field instead of checking down, he will be solid.

Trevor Siemian will be the backup in the next preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. Hopefully he can have a solid practice and do better.
