Garett Bolles showing he’s as advertised as a first round pick

Denver Broncos rookie left tackle Garett Bolles is living up to the first round hype through the first week of practices at training camp…

Garett Bolles is a family man.

That’s why when the Denver Broncos’ rookie left tackle says something like this, you know he’s not messing around:

"“I’m very grateful I get to be in and protect them on the blindside and I get to be there for them and make sure that nobody touches them. My quarterback is like my wife, if you touch her then you’re in trouble.”– Garett Bolles at Broncos training camp (quotes via Denver Broncos PR)"

Bolles gave us a very similar quote after he was initially drafted by the Broncos, but it’s one thing to merely say something and another to show it on a consistent basis.

So far, Bolles has eliminated the competition for first team left tackle duties with his play during the Broncos’ first week of training camp, as if there were any doubt about it in the first place.

What I love about Bolles already is, his mentality off the field is consistent with the way he approaches every single snap. This is a guy who preaches physicality and toughness, and from what people are saying out of Broncos camp, that’s exactly the type of player he is.

Bolles talked about the importance of establishing the run, an area the Broncos are excelling at early on in training camp:

"“We want to run the ball. You better back out of our way because we’re coming. That’s how we are. We love to run, we’re going to grind in the dirt and that’s where it starts—in the trenches. We have the best defensive line and our offensive line is going to get there, where it needs to be. Right now we’re just working on one thing, one day at a time. When the time comes, we’ll be ready for week one.”"

The Broncos did a great job this offseason of bringing in players for the offensive line that really set the tone. Garett Bolles is one example among a number, including Ron Leary from the Cowboys, Menelik Watson from the Raiders, and Allen Barbre from the Eagles.

Leary, Watson, and Barbre came from arguably the three best offensive line groups in football. Bolles came from a unit at Utah that put up over 5,500 yards of total offense last season.

These guys have been part of successful units, and it’s now just a matter of putting it all together with the Broncos.

Bolles in particular has a difficult job, but it’s one he embraces.

Protecting the quarterback’s blind side is like protecting a member of his family.

Hopefully soon we come to find that Bolles is the franchise left tackle the Broncos have been seeking.
