Red Zone

According to Team Rankings, the Denver Broncos were near the very bottom of Red Zone Scoring Percentage. It is understandable why given the three-and-outs on a regular basis and ill-advised turnovers. Some may even say play calling became an issue in 2016. All are plausible scenarios and it is clear the new staff is making it a priority in Training Camp.

The Broncos spent about 30-40 minutes working in the red zone with all three quarterbacks: Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch and Kyle Sloter. Except for scoring running plays there were overthrows and interceptions in crucial parts of the field. Lynch’s pick six to Bradley Roby should never been thrown. A rookie mistake for a second-year quarterback. It is mistake that cannot translate to the regular season.

At 47% Red Zone Scoring Percentage, the Broncos must open up the playbook in the area to spread out a defense. There are numerous pieces to help be effective in the red zone. Draftees Carlos Henderson and camp star Isaiah McKenzie are wrinkles to help skyrocket the efficiency in their scoring offense. Expect a better red zone offense in 2017.
