When the Denver Broncos signed wide receiver Marlon Brown, they made a curious move in-season, giving him a two-year contract.

Two-year contracts aren’t often given out during the course of the regular season, but the Broncos had some history with Brown dating back to training camp last year, and he just wasn’t healthy enough for the regular season.

When Brown was brought back, he still wasn’t quite healthy enough to compete, but the fact that he was given a two-year deal was indicative that the coaching staff, training staff, and front office believed he could and would make a full recovery.

Brown was best statistically early on in his career. He hasn’t played since 2015 and is now looking at a longshot chance at the Broncos’ roster.

Circumstantially, Brown couldn’t ask for a situation better than the one he’s in. The Broncos could keep five or six receivers, and there will be open competition for both of those spots.

If Brown can show some of his 2013/14 form, the Broncos may have a nice little steal on their hands. Brown is a guy that has the type of size and wide catch radius that is a young quarterback’s best friend. He could surprise come training camp and the pre-season.
