Day one of camp is in the books for the Denver Broncos. I detail Garret Bolles, the No-Fly-Zone, and give a winner for day one of the QB competition.
There was a noticeable takeaway during the Denver Broncos first day of training camp; this is an improved team on the offensive side of the ball. The Broncos were flying around today during an abbreviated practice session that lasted all of 90 minutes. They had the music cranking, Von dancing, and overall got a lot done in a short period of time.
The focus of the day during team periods was red zone work—an area where the Broncos have struggled mightily for the better part of two years. Essentially every team drill started inside the 30-yard line, whether it was 7 on 7 or 11 on 11. The offense performed far better than most had expected for day one. The defense still made a lot of plays, as is to be expected, but the offense had their share of nice moments as well—a welcome sign after two years of watching the defense pretty much have their way.
The Broncos were a bit short-handed for the first day of camp. Coach Vance Joseph stated this morning during an interview with Mark Schlereth and Mike Evans of 104.3 The Fan that Booker would be undergoing surgery tomorrow to fix the issue. Additionally, Derek Wolfe was sent home this morning with a stomach virus.
But enough about the downer news. On to the top takeaways from the Broncos morning session:
