With Devontae Booker sidelined for six weeks due to a wrist injury, the Denver Broncos made a move at running back by signing Stevan Ridley.

Devontae Booker will miss six weeks and will have surgery on Friday on his wrist. The Denver Broncos have decided to bring in Stevan Ridley to help in the running back competition.

First reported by Ian Rapoport, the Denver Broncos have brought Ridley in for a workout. The Broncos were impressed with what he had and signed him later on in the day.

Nicki Jhabvala reported that the deal between Ridley and the Denver Broncos is one year. He will add some competition at the running back position. He has played for the New England Patriots and New York Jets.

This move makes sense as far as adding some competition. However, I do not believe Stevan Ridley will stay long with the Denver Broncos. I can easily see him becoming a camp body for the team. However, if one of the running backs on the roster do not perform, Ridley could find himself with a roster spot.

There are a couple ways I can see this happening. If the Broncos believe De’Angelo Henderson is not ready for a roster spot, they could always put him on the practice squad. Another situation is if Jamaal Charles falls behind and he does not make the team.

As far as Stevan Ridley, the signing is peculiar.  Ridley tore his ACL in 2014. And ever since he has had trouble finding a team. He has not performed well since his big year in 2012.

It will take a lot for Stevan Ridley to make the roster. I just do not see him being more than a camp body while Booker recovers. If he finds a way to make the team, more power to him. I just do not see it in the cards.
