Age: 25 – Contract: 3 years remaining, $635,848 cap hit

Devontae Booker ended up leading the Denver Broncos in rushing during his rookie season, showing flashes of brilliance along the way.

Considered a potential second round prospect by many in the 2016 NFL Draft, age and injury concerns pushed Booker down the board and into the Broncos’ laps.

As has been the case with some other young backs the Broncos have recently brought in, Booker fumbled in the Broncos’ season opener and unfortunately struggled in that regard last season. He had as many fumbles as he did rushing touchdowns (4).

The other major problem I had with Booker last season was his apparent lack of vision. Booker would run directly into contact, even sometimes running into his own blockers. That seemed to stem from a fear of fumbling the ball, so Booker would just take what was given him, cover the ball, and hold on for dear life.

That will certainly not endear you to a coaching staff, but the Broncos didn’t have much of a choice last season. In year two, I expect Booker to be much better, more confident, and perhaps a significant contributor in what could be a very deep stable of backs.
