Denver Broncos training camp preview: Running backs
22 – C.J. Anderson
Age: 26 – Contract: 3 years remaining, $3,000,000 cap hit
Based on a per-carry basis, C.J. Anderson has been one of the best backs in the league the past few seasons at getting yards after contact.
He’s also proven himself an excellent third-down back, whether as a receiver or blocker.
Anderson’s contributions to the Broncos have been significant, including his game-sealing touchdown run in Super Bowl 50. However, what the Broncos invested financially in Anderson has yet to really be reciprocated in terms of on-field production.
Injuries have played a role there, so obviously the first priority is to keep Anderson healthy. If he’s healthy, he’s a very physical runner who can create yards after contact and make you miss in space.
Some seem to be counting Anderson out early this season, but I’m not. He looks like he’s in great shape after offseason surgery, and ready to potentially become the Broncos’ first 1,000 yard back since Knowshon Moreno in 2013.
If Anderson can stay healthy, the sky is the limit for him as an all-purpose back.
