10 reasons the Denver Broncos will win Super Bowl 52
7. The Defense on the Whole
By Cody Roark, Staff Writer
The Denver Broncos addressed areas that needed improvement on defense this past Spring. Stopping the run was a big area of need and they bolstered the defensive line by adding Domata Peko in the offseason. Derek Wolfe, Adam Gotsis, Demarcus Walker, and Zach Kerr are added into the mix as well.
Beefier and stronger than last season, the defensive line should return back to dominating the run game. While losing Wade Phillips was a big deal for the Broncos, his successor Joe Woods appears to have the players’ admiration and trust. Von Miller is still on the outside haunting opposing quarterbacks and tackles, but on the opposite side Shane Ray is just as ready to dominate.
Add in the Broncos’ elite secondary with Chris Harris Jr., Aqib Talib, TJ Ward, Darian Stewart and second year safety Justin Simmons. The No Fly Zone is still restricted access for opposing wideouts and it doesn’t appear that the flight restriction will be lifted anytime soon.
Last year alone minus the game at Kansas City on Christmas, the defense dominated the opposition and was ultimately consistent, but the offense struggled to keep the defense off of the field. That should change this year with a new offensive system that should give defenders more time to get a breather than playing over 60 snaps per game.
The Broncos’ defense is now filled with depth, and players are hungrier than ever to get back to the Super Bowl.
