Denver Broncos training camp: Special teams preview
The Rest
There are obviously other critical players to special teams than just the snapper, kicker, punter, and return men. That’s why we mentioned Kasim Edebali earlier in this post. In addition to the previously discussed players, here are a few key guys for the Broncos on special teams, players who played the majority of special teams snaps last season…
Will Parks, Safety
Parks entered the NFL as a sixth round pick, and found a way to crack the defensive and special teams rotations in his first season. There will be high expectations for him in year two to develop into a stud on special teams.
Corey Nelson, Linebacker
Like many on this list, Nelson broke into the NFL making plays on special teams. He’s found his way in to the defense as well, but he remains one of the Broncos’ most significant special teams performers.
Justin Simmons, Safety
Justin Simmons made arguably the special teams play of the year last season in New Orleans. His freakish athletic ability and football instincts make him the perfect special teams player.
Shaquil Barrett, Linebacker
Shaquil Barrett has been a stellar special teamer since he made his way onto the Broncos’ active roster. When healthy, he’ll be a huge asset there once again.
Next: Training Camp Preview: Quarterbacks
Zaire Anderson, Linebacker
Zaire Anderson has speed and a big time hit stick. He can jar the ball loose when he flies at a return man like a bullet. He suffered a scary injury at the end of last season, so that will have to be monitored moving forward.
Brendan Langley, Cornerback
Langley doesn’t have prior experience with the Broncos on special teams, but he was a heck of a return man in college, and has speed to burn. He’s expected to replace Kayvon Webster (big shoes) for the Broncos this season on special teams.
