Denver Broncos: Top trade pieces heading into training camp
3. Virgil Green, Tight End
In addition to their depth at wide receiver (more on that in a moment) the Broncos have depth at the tight end position.
It might not be proven depth, but they have it on paper.
The team has used a third round draft pick on Jeff Heuerman as recently as 2015, and they spent two fifth round picks in this year’s draft on tight ends (A.J. Derby in a trade, Jake Butt in the draft).
Green is the veteran of the group, of course, but is entering the final season of his contract and perhaps has the most value to teams outside of Denver. Green has always been an outstanding athlete, but he’s one of the few that has taken his pre-draft scouting report and turned it completely upside down as a pro.
Green was pegged as an H-Back/move tight end coming out of Nevada, and the only area he’s consistently excelled in is as a blocker.
His skills as a blocker could prompt the Broncos to be very stingy in trade talks, but for the right price, he might be available.
