1. The quarterback situation may not be resolved

The first reason to be pessimistic about the 2017 season is the fact that there may be no actual resolution at the quarterback position. I think the majority of people are assuming at this point that Paxton Lynch is going to win the job because the team needs to find out what it has in a former first round pick.

There’s nothing wrong with that logic, but what if Lynch plays like the Lynch we saw most of last season when he was given opportunities?

He stepped in against Tampa Bay and looked excellent as Trevor Siemian’s backup, but when he was called upon to start a couple of games, he was absolutely atrocious.

Siemian was bad most of the season, with a few stretches of strong play sprinkled in. It wasn’t inspiring enough that the Broncos felt they could simply move forward with him as the starter, which is telling of how he played last year.

Still, the two are neck-and-neck as we approach training camp. At least, that’s what we’ve been told. There’s strong reason to believe this job will belong to Paxton Lynch at the start of the season, but will he hold onto it? Will he prove capable of being this team’s quarterback of the present and future?
