Zach Kerr, Defensive Line

John Elway struck gold a few years ago with a low risk/high reward free agent in Darian Stewart. Free agent pick-up Zach Kerr could be the next breakout signing Elway could put under his belt.

Now Kerr isn’t going to be a player that fills the stat sheet, but his breakout performance will come in terms of clogging running lanes.

The Broncos run defense finished 28th last season and could be described as atrocious during multiple points last season. The front office made multiple moves in hopes of improving that area by bringing in Domata Peko and drafting Demarcus Walker in the second round. However, Kerr has the best chance to breakout and give the Broncos the biggest contribution.

Kerr comes in at 6-2 334 pounds big enough to play at the nose but has the athletic ability to play the end position as well. If you want to see the potential that Kerr has you can go back to the game against the Broncos last year.

Now why Kerr over any of the other defensive lineman on the roster? Well Adam Gotsis is still dealing with lingering affects of an ACL injury.Domata Peko is consistent but won’t wow you on the field. And the rookie Demarcus Walker is more of a pass rushing end and will need time to fully develop his game. All these players will no doubt be apart of a rotation and contribute along side of Kerr.

You combine Kerr’s potential and athleticism and pair that with players like Derek Wolfe, Brandon Marshall, and Von Miller and the recipe is there for the breakout season.
