Why Jake Butt was the steal of the 2017 NFL Draft

It’s true, highlights don’t tell the whole story, but this is a player who consistently makes highlight reel plays. Butt shows strong hands consistently, always catching the ball away from his body and providing his quarterback with a sure target.

This is one big reason why so many were reminded of Jason Witten when watching Butt play. Even though Witten isn’t a Jimmy Graham type of athlete, he’s as consistent as they come. When the Cowboys need a big third down conversion, they know they can throw it to Witten and he will find a way to make the catch.

Soft hands will quickly earn Butt the trust of his quarterback, whether it’s Trevor Siemian, Paxton Lynch, or whoever else. He’s a natural as a pass catcher, making tough catches look easy.

Not only will that endear him to his teammates, it will get him on the field more as he earns the trust of the coaching staff and forces them to keep him on the field.
