The Denver Broncos made an interesting move on Wednesday when they cut CB Taurean Nixon and signed former Bengal CB Chris Lewis-Harris.

Denver made a surprising roster move on Wednesday when they cut CB Taurean Nixon. In return Denver signed former Bengals/Ravens CB Chris Lewis-Harris, who moves into that role.

Lewis-Harris is a six year NFL veteran who played for the Bengals and Ravens. Lewis-Harris spent time on the Bengals practice squad and has former ties to Denver Broncos Head Coach Vance Joseph.

Chris Lewis-Harris signed as a free agent out of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post first reported the move this morning on Twitter. The move comes as a surprise to many fans in Broncos Country who thought Nixon would have a huge role on special teams this season.

In his six seasons in the league, Lewis-Harris has accounted for a total of 14 tackles and one interception. He has yet to start a game in his career, but has rotated in on several important down situations. The roster move, however, has many fans wondering why Nixon was released.

During mini-camp yesterday Nixon made several plays including a pick six of Paxton Lynch during the team session. On the next play, Lynch connected with Cody Latimer on a deep ball, toasting Nixon in the process.

On Wednesday morning, Nixon was asked to pack his bags and Lewis-Harris was asked to bring his. While Broncos fans may not have substantial information on Lewis-Harris, they do remember Demaryius Thomas catching a pass on him during Denver’s 29-17 win over the Bengals this season.

Lewis-Harris is set to join the NFL’s most talented defensive backfield and it may be a move that helps Lewis-Harris grow personally and professionally.

Denver Broncos Roster Move Reaction:

The roster move this morning was surprising to myself and others, however, after some thought I feel the move was because of experience. In six seasons, Lewis-Harris has had the opportunity to contribute, but not flourish.

As a rotational DB, Lewis-Harris has plenty of room to grow. And now he returns to familiar roots. Reunited with his former DB coach Vance Joseph, Lewis-Harris has an understanding of Joseph’s philosophy.

Vance Joseph himself knows Lewis-Harris which may tell us something that we don’t know yet.
