The Denver Broncos found themselves down a defensive tackle on the first day of mini camp as Kyle Peko has suffered a broken foot.
During Organized Team Activities, the Denver Broncos suffered their first significant injury when Shaquil Barrett hurt his hip. Now, the defense suffered another injury during minicamp.
Defensive tackle Kyle Peko broke his right foot during practice today and it has been revealed that he will be out for some time. Chances are he would be back sometime during training camp.
He is scheduled to have surgery on the foot on Wednesday.
With a defense that is looking to get better up front, this injury does hurt the team’s depth chart. According to Mike Klis, he was the favorite to serve as the backup for his older cousin Domata Peko. His cousin was signed by the Broncos earlier in the offseason.
The good news is that he should be ready and will return at a decent time. The bad news is that he will miss out on valuable reps during the time he is out. For all that we know, he could be a valuable member for the Denver Broncos defense.
With Kyle Peko out for a significant amount of time, this will give some of the younger players a chance to show what they can do. Look for Tyrique Jarrett to show the Denver Broncos what he can do in a more extended role.
Next: Broncos are not interested in Eric Decker Right Now
With just two more minicamp practices until the Denver Broncos break for the summer, it is a shame that Kyle Peko will not be able to participate. However, I do not believe the Broncos are going to look for another defensive tackle in the meantime. This is especially true since he will be returning sometime during camp.
Wishing you the best in your recovery Kyle Peko.
