Looking at all the options for the Denver Broncos at the tight end position this year, it’s clear that someone is going to need to emerge for this to be a position of strength and not just a bunch of unknowns.

The Broncos have talent at tight end, but more question marks than on-field solutions. Who will step up in 2017?

Virgil Green is the veteran of the Broncos’ tight end group, and he still has yet to really develop into the threat in the passing game we envisioned six years ago when he was a seventh round sleeper.

Still, from a seventh round draft pick, the Broncos have gotten an incredible return on Green, who became one of the top blocking tight ends on the team when he first started to see playing time.

What does he offer now?

The Broncos really need someone to emerge as a consistent threat in the passing game, and there’s no real reason he hasn’t been ‘the guy’ yet. Green has speed, he’s physical, and he has good enough size. He’s now going back to an offense where he probably had his most success as a blocker, but the familiarity could give him an edge over some of the younger, perhaps more talented receiving options.

It would be great to see Green finally take that leap many Broncos fans have hoped for in 2017, but he’ll have strong competition.
