Broncos OLB Shaquil Barrett Could Miss Time With Injury
By Tylor Walden
The first injury of the OTA’s has popped up for the linebacking corps. Shaquil Barrett could miss some time with a hip injury that surfaced on Tuesday.
The hip has become quite the thorn to Denver Broncos players this offseason. Matt Paradis is currently recovering from hip surgery. Now another Broncos player has learned that he will miss time due to that hip.
Outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett was not on the field for OTA’s on Tuesday. According to Brandon Krisztal, the linebacker suffered a hip injury. It is unclear how bad the injury is to this point, but Krisztal said that he could miss significant time.
While Broncos Country will have to hold their breaths until the results come back, it may not be a serious concern since the team is in the OTA stage. However, hip injuries are a fickle creature to deal with for athletes.
I would believe that the Denver Broncos might be without him for the remainder of the OTA’s. There is a chance he could return in time for training camp if the injury is not serious. Until the team and everyone else knows the extent of the injury, it is tough to say how long he will be out.
As far as how this could impact the depth, it could be very significant. Barrett is the backup to Shane Ray and Von Miller with Demarcus Ware’s retirement. We saw in 2015 how much of an impact Shaquil Barrett can have on a game.
Vontarrius Dora could see an increased role in the defense if Barrett ends up missing significant time. He played some time in the preseason before being placed on the practice squad. He would be a name I look out for.
Next: Paxton Lynch will open week on starting offense
Free agency and trading could be an option. It will be interesting to see who the Broncos look at in those regards.
Hopefully Shaquil Barrett makes a full recovery. Vance Joseph announced that the team will know more in one week at the presser.
