The Denver Broncos first pick on the third day is Michigan tight end Jake Butt. How will he impact the depth chart for the Broncos?

It took almost two and a half hours, but the Denver Broncos finally have their first pick on day three of the draft. The team has gone with Michigan tight end Jake Butt.

He becomes the first pick of the fifth round. A lot of analysis had him as a first round draft target. However, his ACL injury he suffered in his final college game. So, there will be a recovery time until he sees the field.

Jake Butt has been a prospect that a lot of Denver Broncos fans have been looking at closely. And John Elway felt the exact same way. With the tight end position still uncertain, this was a smart move by the Broncos.

So, what can he do for the Broncos? How much of an impact can he make on the depth chart?

Well, due to his ACL injury, he will not see the field right away. I would not be surprised if he ends up on the PUP list. This means we may not see him until around the end of September at the earliest.

But once he does hit the field, he could become the steal of the Broncos 2017 draft class. His ability to make plays will be a huge addition for whomever starts for the team at quarterback.

Having a guy like Jake Butt will really help in the red zone and on short yardage situations. Pair him up with A..J. Derby and these guys will make some noise.

He will need to get past Virgil Green and Jeff Heuerman, but there is no doubt that he can become that piece for the Denver Broncos offense. Broncos Country is excited.
