With the 203rd overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos have selected Coastal Carolina running back De’Angelo Henderson, one of the top remaining running backs on the board as the draft nears its conclusion.

Henderson is the all-time leader at Coastal Carolina in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns. He also finished his career in college with 97 career catches.

Henderson has a compact build for a running back and a low center of gravity, but exceptional long speed and athletic measurables. He was, of course, incredibly productive and that’s evidenced by this phenomenal statistic:

Henderson is 24, so he’ll be an older rookie, but he has an intriguing skill set and should be a valuable player for the Broncos, who traded Kapri Bibbs on day three of the 2017 NFL Draft. The Broncos needed to come away from this year’s draft with some kind of speed at running back, and Henderson certainly has it.

He ran a 4.48 at the Scouting Combine, and also threw up 20 bench press reps with a 10-foot broad jump. Those are some big time numbers for a player of his stature.

The two-time FCS All-American has a connection on the Broncos’ coaching staff in new special teams coordinator Brock Olivo, who was the Coastal Carolina running backs coach from 2012-13. Olivo might be able to find a use for Henderson on special teams to get him active on gamedays.

This is a nice pick for upside by the Broncos who needed to find more juice for their offense. They didn’t have a lot of production from the running back position this past year, and resorted to bringing in Justin Forsett off the waiver wire late in the year. Forsett wound up even starting for the team.

It was a desperate situation, but the Broncos seem to have a player they really like here in Henderson who we will dive more into very soon.
