Denver Broncos could look to trade up early on day two
2017 NFL Draft: The Denver Broncos could be looking to make a move up in the second or third round of the draft to get the playmaker they covet…
After nearly having to make a move up for Garett Bolles in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos enter day two with their full arsenal of selections. That’s a big development, as they were potentially looking at entering day two with one less pick than they would have liked to ideally have.
As the draft board fell on Thursday night, the Broncos were able to stay put at the 20th overall pick and take the player in Bolles that they wanted all along. But who will they take now on day two? There’s a clear need for ‘juice’ on the offense as Vance Joseph put it, and the Broncos also could use some depth on the defensive line, at tight end, and defensive back.
Rumors have started escalating that the Broncos might explore trading up into the earlier portion of round two, using one of their two third round picks to do so…
So, not only are the Broncos exploring moving up, but more specifically, the target could be Oklahoma’s Joe Mixon. Earlier on Friday, it was rumored that the Broncos would ‘pass’ on Mixon on day two of the draft, but those reports from Mike Klis could have been a smokescreen from the Denver Broncos.

Or perhaps their perceived interest in Mixon could be a smokescreen for another player. Who knows?
There are a lot of really talented players yet available on the board, and specifically in the ‘playmaker’ department. The Broncos could look at Mixon or Florida State’s Dalvin Cook, or depending on how their board is, they could target Tennessee’s Alvin Kamara or Ohio State’s Curtis Samuel.
One reason why Mixon makes a lot of sense is his ability to play so many different roles within an offense and special teams as a returner. The reasons the Broncos might not draft Mixon are apparent, at this point.
It’s anyone’s guess as to what will happen on Friday night, but for the record, both myself and staff writer Steven Kriz predicted the Broncos’ second selection in the draft to be Mixon.
