The AFC West was among the most interesting in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, starting with the Los Angeles Chargers at the 7th overall spot.

The Chargers got things kicked off with a bit of a surprising pick, but it was the Kansas City Chiefs that ended up making some of the most noise on draft night. Day one of the draft was eventful for the NFL’s best division, and we start by taking a look at the first of two top 10 picks to join…

13. . Wide Receiver. Clemson. Mike Williams. 7. player

While at Clemson, Williams suffered a scary injury to his neck/back area that caused him to miss the entire 2015 season. Were it not for that injury, Williams would likely already have a year of experience in the NFL.

Early on in his collegiate career, it was apparent that this would be another in a seemingly long line of players with the name Mike Williams to be drafted into the NFL. All joking aside, the big play ability Williams put on display was impossible to ignore, and he showed out in a big way this past season coming off of his scary, nearly career-ending injury.

At 6-foot-4, 218 pounds, Williams has excellent size to be a number one receiver in the league, and enough athleticism to justify this pick. He didn’t blow anyone away with his workout at the Combine, but Williams showed at Clemson he has the ability to take over games and make big time catches in clutch situations.

With his catch radius, Williams was one of the best I scouted this year at catching the ball at its highest point and coming away with the highly contested balls. He is a huge weapon in the red zone and now joins a Chargers group that includes Keenan Allen (if healthy) and Travis Benjamin.
