The staff at Predominantly Orange put together a collaborative 2017 NFL Mock Draft by putting on our general manager hats and playing the role of lead decision-maker for each respective NFL team.

For this particular exercise, each general manager had up to two minutes to make a selection based on team needs, circulating rumors, and overall player and positional value. Trades were also allowed within reasonable bounds of the unofficial trade value chart.

Texas A&M. Cleveland Browns. 1. player. 53. GM: @CodyRoarkPO: The Browns select Myles Garrett over Mitchell Trubisky because they currently have 4 quarterbacks on their roster. Cody Kessler, Kevin Hogan, Brock Osweiler, and Pat Devlin. Kevin Hogan and Cody Kessler impressed even the Cleveland skepticals last season. The Browns however need somebody on defense that can cause havoc on opposing quarterbacks. Myles Garrett is the first pick that makes sense to Cleveland. At Texas A&M he accounted for 141 total career tackles and 31 sacks in just 3 seasons at Texas A&M. The stat that stands out aside from his sack total is 47 tackles for loss in his 3 years at A&M. He will be an instant upgrade at the position and will help the Browns improve their 31st ranked NFL defense. The Browns were also ranked 31st in the league in run defense. Garrett’s quick first step combined with his speed will help the defense make pivotal plays in certain moments.. Myles Garrett, DE

North Carolina. San Francisco 49ers. 2. player. 42. GM: @skrizPO: John Lynch decides to make a splash in his first draft as General Manager of the San Francisco 49ers. Instead of waiting around to pay Kirk Cousins elite money a year from now, he goes out and gets a guy for new head coach Kyle Shanahan to groom. It will be a rebuilding year for the Niners, but Trubisky figures to be the quarterback of the future. Shanahan will fit a scheme around Trubisky’s strengths, and will get the very best out of the QB year after year. For Trubisky, working with Shanahan should best case scenario for him, given Shanahan’s success with all different types of QB’s. It’s likely a reach, but a chance to get their guy for the foreseeable future.. Mitchell Trubisky, QB

57. GM: @sayrebedinger: The Chicago Bears could take a quarterback with this selection, but instead, I’m projecting them to take a defensive leader and one of the best players on that side of the football in this entire draft. Since the early-mid 2000s, the Bears have lacked in the defensive department when they were one of the league’s dominant defensive teams. Adams has the type of physicality and leadership ability to help spark a resurgence on that side of the football in Chicago. The Bears and head coach John Fox are really in desperate need of some kind of quick turnaround, which is why I think they will pass on a quarterback in the first round of this year’s draft after signing Mike Glennon in free agency.. Jamal Adams, S. LSU. Chicago Bears. 3. player

player. 52. GM: @CameronParkerPO: It is unlikely the Jacksonville Jaguars give a fifth year option on Blake Bortles. This leaves a door open for a potential new starter in 2017. Deshaun Watson is a better prospect than Mitchell Trubisky in my opinion. Watson’s mobility gives him many options as a passer. There is certainly one constant in the Jaguars offense and that is the wide receivers. Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson make up the youngest and best tandem at wide receiver in the NFL. Watson makes the team an interesting team to watch in 2017 with the addition of the National Champion quarterback.. DeShaun Watson, QB. Clemson. Jacksonville Jaguars. 4
