The Denver Broncos are currently slated to pick 20th in the first round of this year’s draft, but some team could jump them for an offensive tackle…

We are now just one day away from the 2017 NFL Draft, and discovering what the Denver Broncos will do with their first round draft pick.

Will John Elway stand pat and let the board fall to him? Will he move up to get a player he covets? What if some team jumps right in front of the Broncos and snipes the player Denver wants right out from underneath them?

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, that could be a very distinct possibility…

As I stated on Twitter, the Buccaneers’ pick could be the prime area of real estate to get the top tackle in this year’s draft. There have been plenty of rumors swirling that offensive tackles are going to go a lot earlier than people think, but in a draft dominated by defensive depth, I think teams could play the ‘wait and see’ game.

If that’s the case, the highest offensive lineman picked should be Western Kentucky’s Forrest Lamp, and he could go as high as 15 to Indianapolis or 16 to Baltimore.

After that, it’s really anyone’s guess. And if all the top linemen go in the late teens (for whatever reason…), it would make sense for a team to jump the Broncos at 20 if there’s only one remaining.

This year’s draft is not deep at offensive tackle, but there are starting caliber players. The best tackle in the draft, in my opinion, is Garett Bolles out of Utah. Would some team like the Giants or Seahawks be willing to jump ahead of the Broncos to secure him?

That’s how I saw it shaking out in my latest first round mock draft over at NFLMocks.com…

It would shock no one, the way this offseason has gone, if some team snuck up behind Denver and picked the player they wanted at no. 19 overall. The Broncos will have plans in case something like that happens, obviously, and sometimes, John Elway has made his best selections when a player he coveted was selected (or signed in free agency) before he had a chance to make the final move.
