Steve ‘Greek’ Antonopulos served the Denver Broncos as their Head Athletic Trainer for 41 years, now he serves the team as the Director of Sports Medicine…

On Wednesday morning the Denver Broncos announced that they have promoted their long time athletic trainer Steve ‘Greek’ Antonopulos as their Director of Sports Medicine. A move that is well deserved for Antonopulos who is well respected in the community and league.

As Greek moves forward as the Director of Sports Medicine, his assistant Vince Garcia will now become the Broncos’ new head athletic trainer.  Greek will now oversee athletic training and be in charge of helping players during injury rehabilitation.

Garcia will now oversee the day to day operations as the head athletic trainer. This involves tending to players who experience in injury during practice or workouts, and referring them for additional medical treatment.

Greek began his career back in 1976 as an assistant to the head athletic trainer. Three years later he became the Broncos’ Director of Rehabilitation for injured athletes.

In 1980, he became the Broncos Head Athletic Trainer where he developed a league-wide respect. The Broncos organization also saw the value in Antonopulos which is why he has remained with the team for 41 seasons.

John Elway expressed his excitement for Greek’s promotion.

"“Greek’s been a cornerstone of the Denver Broncos for more than four decades, and we’re excited to have him move up a level to become our director of sports medicine.”– John Elway on Steve Antonopulos promotion to Director of Sports Medicine"

Antonopulos was with the organization when John Elway was the quarterback. Elway knows firsthand how great Greek is at his job, as he helped him battle through some injuries during his career.

Greek Speaks on Denver Broncos:

Antonopulos spoke about his promotion with the desire for the organization to grow and was especially thankful for the Broncos Organization.

"“I’ve been living a dream for the last 41 years while I’ve worked for the Denver Broncos. It’s an honor to work for Mr. Bowlen and Joe Ellis, and I couldn’t have a better boss than John Elway. I’m grateful for this new opportunity and am really looking forward to working with Vince, our players and coaches, and the rest of our very talented medical staff.”– Steve Antonopulos on the Broncos Organization"

It appears that the Broncos are in great hands with their medical staff moving forward. John Elway has high praise in Vince Garcia as the Broncos Head Athletic Trainer.
