The running back position is not a need on the Denver Broncos’ roster, but there is a need to address stability with that group. As evidenced by the usage of backs on the Atlanta Falcons roster, it is okay to use multiple talented players in the backfield. The likes of Christian McCaffrey, Dalvin Cook, Joe Mixon and Alvin Kamara are possible additions to the Broncos. However, John Elway does not shy away from bringing in the big name players.
Adrian Peterson fits the bill.
Elway missed out on Tony Romo, but the Broncos are comfortable with the two quarterbacks on their roster. This leaves another opportunity for to solidify another position heading into the draft. Remember, Elway and the team brass love to fill all needs before the draft to ensure the chance to draft the best player available.
On paper, the Broncos currently have C.J. Anderson, Devontae Booker and Kapri Bibbs in a crowded backfield. The addition of Peterson means a player is on the outside looking in. Anderson seems to be the logical candidate given lack of production the past few years and his inability to stay healthy.

Speaking of health concerns, Peterson himself sees a conundrum as no one wants the current 32-year old running back. He did have a meeting with the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots; however, neither team signed him leaving Peterson unemployed.
Peterson is a bit like a superhero to begin a season. You could say he is like Wolverine. Peterson has shown the capability to heal faster than the average person after sustaining multiple knee injuries. It is not far-fetched to think Peterson will be back to his old self in 2017 and healthy.
Yet, for Peterson he must lessen the workload to last a full season. Splitting time with Anderson/Booker gives team depth at the position the franchise never had before. Peterson, at this point in his career, is more of a two-down running back then an every-down player.
The Broncos are likely to address the running back position in the April draft, which could spell the end of a potential pursuit for Adrian Peterson. However, with John Elway running the show anything is possible.
