The Denver Broncos will get an up-close look at University of Sioux Falls quarterback Luke Papilion, a Denver native and NFL Draft hopeful…

The Denver Broncos are in need of some competition at quarterback, in case you haven’t heard, and they will get an up close look at a sleeper quarterback in the 2017 NFL Draft, according to NFL Draft Diamonds.

NFL people are taking notice of Papilion. As the report states, he was invited to participate in the Denver Broncos’ local pro day, where he will show off his athleticism and skills for the team that could very likely employ him within the next month.

Some sites list Papilion as a tight end prospect, but I’m not sure he quite has the size to do that. NFL teams might put him through drills to see how fluid he is as a receiver, but the athletic ability he has is absolutely off the charts.

He’s one of just three players in Division II history to throw for 9,000 yards and rush for 3,000. He was a two time Harlon Hill Trophy award candidate and as a senior, accounted for 34 total touchdowns.

There’s no doubt this kid can play some football, but the Broncos will get a look to see whether or not he will be a quarterback or a receiver at the next level. After watching some of his games, it looks like he could be well on his way to playing a receiver/tight end hybrid role. He just makes plays when the ball is in his hands.

That’s not a slight to his arm, however. He can sling the ball around but I wonder if he might have too much work to do mechanically to be a full-time quarterback in the NFL.

One way or another, I think he will get a look in the NFL at someone’s training camp, and as a Denver local, I think he would probably prefer it to be with the Broncos.

According to an interview with the aforementioned NFL Draft Diamond site, Papilion’s favorite team is — you guessed it — the Broncos. He also picked Peyton Manning over Tom Brady when given the option between the two.

He will fit right in with Broncos Country.

The Broncos’ local pro day is scheduled for April 13th.
