In an interview with DenverBroncos.com, ESPN’s Adam Schefter says he doesn’t expect that the team will pursue Tony Romo if/when he’s released…

The longer we wait for a resolution between Tony Romo, the Denver Broncos, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Houston Texans, the more it seems the Broncos may not be lying when they say they like the two young quarterbacks they have.

Although the reasons for wanting to sign Romo are obvious at this point, the Broncos may genuinely feel like they can continue to operate without having to take a risk on Romo. One major NFL reporter who has been pretty quiet about the situation (at least from my perspective) is ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

He spoke to DenverBroncos.com at the NFL owner’s meetings, and from what he’s hearing, the Broncos’ public stance may not be posturing after all…

"“I think that they’re content to move forward with Paxton Lynch and with Trevor Siemian. I don’t expect that they would be involved with Tony Romo if and when the Dallas Cowboys were to release him. Now, that could change and teams’ plans change all the time. But I think right now, they’re content with both of those quarterbacks. They traded up last year to get Paxton Lynch. They drafted him in the first round. They have a lot invested in him. I think they have high hopes for him, and we’ll see what he can do. I don’t think the talent is the question there. Trevor Siemian is beloved in that locker room and we’ll see how he responds in his second year as a potential starting quarterback. But I think they’re rolling with those two guys right now.”– ESPN’s Adam Schefter in an interview with DenverBroncos.com"

Those are some pretty strong statements there, even though Schefter notes that plans can always change. The Broncos have appeared to be saving cap space for Tony Romo and are seemingly just waiting for him to hit the open market before signing him to a contract.

That could very well be the plan, but they have maintained all offseason that they have had no discussions as a front office regarding Romo.

It would be nice if Romo’s situation could be resolved sooner rather than later, so we can all stop thinking about it.
