Denver Broncos CEO Joe Ellis said the team is in discussions with John Elway about a contract extension, and hopes it gets done prior to the season…
The Denver Broncos obviously don’t want John Elway going anywhere. They are working on getting a contract extension done with their Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager, and Joe Ellis — the team president and CEO — says they hope a deal is done sooner rather than later…
Pat Bowlen, who has obviously stepped away from his duties with the teams for health reasons, likely would want Ellis to do anything and everything in his power to keep Elway with the Broncos. There have been rumors that the Broncos will make Elway the highest paid executive in the NFL, and for good reason.

Since Elway took over the decision-making for putting together the Broncos’ coaching staff and roster, they have won five AFC West division titles, two AFC titles, and one Super Bowl. He has drafted one of the best players in Denver Broncos history in Von Miller, and signed arguably the best free agent in NFL history in Peyton Manning.
Elway’s decisions as the Broncos’ general manager have obviously been well-documented, but there are areas he and his staff have to work on. Namely, hitting on picks on day two of the NFL Draft.
If the Broncos can get a contract extension done with Elway, fans will probably sleep a little better at night. There’s no one Broncos fans would rather have making the decisions for the team, and as time goes on Elway continues to prove he knows how to operate the business side of football just as well as he did playing the game.
Elway knows what it takes to put together a championship caliber roster, and how to put together a winning environment. He’s done everything he can to make the Broncos a powerhouse in the AFC, and he deserves to be recognized for his efforts with a big contract extension.
