Should the Denver Broncos look at ILB Rey Maualuga?
By Tylor Walden
The Cincinnati Bengals announced on Saturday that they have released ILB Rey Maualuga. Should the Denver Broncos try and sign the veteran?
One position that the Denver Broncos are looking to upgrade is at the inside linebacker position.
A new name that has just become a free agent could help the Broncos.
The Cincinnati Bengals announced Saturday afternoon that they have released inside linebacker Rey Maualuga.
The move was in order for the team to create cap space. Another factor could be the recent signing of Kevin Minter.
Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis made a statement that the move was also to help the defense get younger.
With the Denver Broncos looking to add at the inside linebacker position, could Rey Maualuga be the answer?
Let us look at his stats from the last few seasons.
He recorded at least 30 tackles in the years 2013-2015. But his numbers dropped significantly last year.
He only recorded 17 tackles last season. You can tell how that would be alarming. Stats plus getting younger plus salary equals cut, I suppose.
Would he be able to help the Denver Broncos? I absolutely think he could.
They have quite a bit of cap space to work with. I could easily see John Elway working out a veteran type deal for him.
Not to mention that Rey Maualuga would be reunited with Vance Joseph, who was coaching the secondary for the Bengals.

I am certain having Maualuga on the Broncos roster could benefit both parties involved. The Broncos could use a solid veteran on the defensive side with Demarcus Ware retiring.
And Maualuga would get the chance to be apart of a solid defense that help the Broncos win their third title back during the 2015 season.
If I am John Elway, I am calling Rey Maualuga to at least set up a meeting. It certainly would not hurt.
