The most likely eventual outcome in this game is that Tony Romo is eventually released under a Post-June 1st designation.  Sure, it is possible that Houston does give in and decides that they need to acquire Romo.  After all, they have only Tom Savage to count on now, and they may feel Romo can make them immediate title contenders. However, after the Osweiler debacle, it is likely that they would like to be a bit more cap conscious, and would prefer to take a run at him on their terms.

There are plenty of veteran options that they could get even if they missed out on Romo in free agency that would still keep them in good shape to once again win the AFC South.

So what happens once Romo is eventually released?  Both teams seem to be keeping their finances in order so that they can make a run at Romo, but according to reports out of Houston, the Broncos should have the upper hand in order to sign him.

John McClain stated in his interview on the Afternoon Drive with Goodman and Shapiro that a contract for Romo would feature a very low base, and a lot of incentives.  The Broncos offer to Romo is rumored to be more in the $10-12 million range, a much more hefty base salary, and far more in guaranteed money.

The Broncos appear to be far more interested in Tony Romo then they are letting on.  According to Mike Fisher of 105.3 The Fan in Dallas, the Broncos would like to be first in line to get Romo in for a visit.

The interest is very real, and the moves they’ve made thus far in free agency have proven that.
