The Denver Broncos will make moves to upgrade the offensive line in free agency, and Ronald Leary could be near the top of the priority list…

Ronald Leary is not the ‘premiere’ offensive guard on the market in free agency. That distinction would probably belong to Kevin Zeitler at this point. However, he’s not far behind after a stellar 2016 season playing in relief of injured La’el Collins, and he’s set to make some nice money.

The Denver Broncos seem like a likely team to bring in Leary, as he’s not at the top of the current guard market and the Broncos typically love to find the best value possible on the free agent market.

Here are some reports right now on how the guard market could look as contracts are discussed by teams and agents in the coming days…

Bringing in Leary is a great option for the Broncos, not only because of their need at the guard position(s) but also because his price tag is nowhere near the ridiculous $12 million Zeitler is expected to command.

If the Broncos can ‘save’ $4 million by signing Leary over Zeitler, I would chalk that up as a victory.

The Broncos are expected to be aggressive but not stupid in free agency, as is typically the case. They don’t ever really go after the guys that are generating the most hype before the free agent signing period starts, but the second tier of guys that are still very good, effective starters, just not over-priced.

Leary fits that bill, and from everything we’re hearing, the Broncos really like him. He would provide a nasty presence inside at guard, and someone who would instantly upgrade the running game on the left side.

Of course, the Broncos have some big issues at the tackle positions as well, which they are expected to also address in free agency. It’s going to be a blast watching John Elway operate in the coming weeks…
