Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey may have solidified his status as a first round pick with an excellent showing at the Scouting Combine…

The NFL didn’t spell Christian McCaffrey’s name correctly on his Combine shirt, but the former Heisman Trophy finalist and Stanford superstar had a day to remember at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine…

McCaffrey was excellent in position drills, and posted excellent athletic measurables. He had one of the best three-cone times we’ve seen, and ran a 4.48 second 40-yard dash to go along with a 37.5-inch vertical jump.

He only put up 10 bench press reps at 225 pounds, but that number isn’t going to matter all that much because what McCaffrey brings to the table is rare. Some don’t see him as the type of dynamic prospect I believe him to be, and we may not settle that argument until he actually sets foot on an NFL field.

Until that time, I remain of the belief that McCaffrey is one of the draft’s most dynamic offensive and special teams weapons. He’s drawn comparisons to Reggie Bush, but I think he’ll be an even better running back at the next level. I think he has a little bit more David Johnson in him as a runner, receiver, and returner, but McCaffrey is really a unique weapon.

Just look at this guy move around the field with such ease…

There’s no question in my mind that McCaffrey will be a star in the NFL someday, but will he be with the Denver Broncos? History would tell us that after making a significant investment in a young quarterback, teams tend to protect and build around that investment.

In addition to adding pieces along the offensive line, there aren’t many moves the Broncos could make this offseason that would have as big of an impact in so many areas of need — running back, slot receiver, return specialist — as McCaffrey would.

John Elway will have plenty of fun options in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, but bringing McCaffrey home should be near the top of the list.
