As NFL Free Agency approaches rapidly, the Denver Broncos are considered among the top candidates to sign Packers OG T.J. Lang…

With NFL Free Agency creeping up rather quickly, the Denver Broncos are putting the final touches on their strategy for luring unrestricted free agents from other teams. John Elway will attempt to clog as many holes as possible before the draft, so the team is not forced to reach for a position of need. A major part of the offseason plan is to upgrade on offense, and Green Bay Packers free agent T.J. Lang could be part of the equation.

Lang is a Pro Bowl guard who has NFL experience at both tackle and guard, and would provide the Broncos with a stable option alongside Matt Paradis at center.

According to Cecil Lammey, the Broncos are among the favorites to sign Lang, who will certainly draw interest on the open market…

This would seem to be a pretty huge blow for the Packers, who let go of Josh Sitton last year for cap reasons. The Denver Broncos were unable to bring Sitton in, but they obviously have a great chance of landing Lang.

In 81 NFL starts, Lang has played all four positions on the offensive line, but he’s started 47 games at the right guard position, which is most likely where the Broncos would be recruiting him to play. In addition to versatility, Lang would provide the Broncos with a much needed veteran presence at the guard position. He graded out highly from Pro Football Focus this past season, despite starting only 13 games.

The going rate for a top flight offensive guard these days is around $8 million per season. The Broncos will have to be willing to pay market value for a free agent or two at positions of dire need, and offensive guard will likely be one area they will pay top dollar.

Lang has reportedly been in talks with the Packers this offseason, but is expected to explore his options on the open market. He would be a phenomenal pickup for John Elway and company.
