In the 2015 offseason, John Elway and the Denver Broncos courted Jared Odrick. Will they try and bring him in again in 2017?

Prior to the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl season in 2015, they reportedly courted free agent defensive lineman Jared Odrick, along with a number of other teams. Ultimately, Odrick signed a big contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, who paid him $22.5 million in guaranteed money, most of which he earned over the first two years of the deal.

With nothing in dead cap remaining, the Jaguars apparently have decided to move on from the defensive lineman, who posted a picture of himself on the beach receiving the news that he’d been released:

Because Odrick was released by the Jaguars, he can sign with any team at any time before the start of free agency. As with Earl Mitchell of the Miami Dolphins, Odrick is very likely to have multiple suitors in free agency, and the Broncos could be among those teams that try to bring him in for a medical check and visit.

The Broncos have a meeting with street free agent Earl Mitchell later this week (provided he doesn’t sign elsewhere before Wednesday night) and could certainly be working to try to set something up with Odrick as I type this.

Starting 16 games in 2015, Odrick led the Jaguars with 5.5 sacks, but played in just six games this past season. Odrick suffered an elbow injury in week two, and never fully recovered before ultimately being placed on injured reserve prior to week seven.

The idea of adding Odrick would mean the Broncos would likely be out of the sweepstakes for Calais Campbell, so they may take their time here. On the other hand, the Broncos could probably bring in both Odrick and Earl Mitchell for less than the price annually of Campbell, and maintain some much needed depth up front.

There are obviously plenty of options right now for Denver on the defensive line. Adding a player like Odrick who has length and pass rush ability from the 3-4 defensive end position would be very nice a year after losing Malik Jackson to the Jags.
