In the second round, this move would definitely excite the fan base, and I’m projecting the Broncos to trade up 11 spots with the New York Jets to select Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey.

With this trade up, the Broncos will have successfully acquired two of the most physically gifted offensive playmakers in the entire draft class. There are certainly some who will doubt whether McCaffrey lasts to the second round, but others who wouldn’t question it at all.

Some evaluators have McCaffrey graded in the top 25 players overall in this year’s class, while others have him somewhere in the 40-45 range.

Whatever the case, if McCaffrey is available in the second round (and at this point, that’s a viable scenario) the Broncos should do what it takes to go up and get him. This is a player that fits multiple needs. So many people are hung up on the fact that he’s listed as a running back, but in reality, he can be an asset in so many different ways for your football team.

McCaffrey can obviously return kicks and punts, a major area of need for the Broncos, and he can line up in the slot as a receiver and run routes. With the football in his hands, there aren’t many more elusive players in this year’s draft. Three picks seems like a steep price to pay in the second round, but with a player like McCaffrey, that kind of price is worthwhile.
