Denver Broncos: Kubiak Retires, Coaching Search Underway
By Tylor Walden
The Denver Broncos were able to win the season finale, but this victory Monday is bittersweet. I am here to recap what has transpired since the win.
The Denver Broncos were able to win their final game of the season by beating the Oakland Raiders 24-6.
It is sweet in this aspect because that will force the Raiders to go on the road and play during Wild Card weekend.
But, it is also a bitter time for everything that has transpired in the last 24 hours.
Gary Kubiak and John Elway met with the press for the end of season conference. Earlier in the morning was when Broncos Country found out officially that Gary Kubiak was stepping down as head coach.
In the press conference, he announced he will be retiring. It was an emotional scene at Dove Valley.
I can’t even begin to say how much Coach Kubiak will be missed here in Broncos Country.
But with that said, the search for a new head coach is underway. John Elway mentioned that there will be no current coordinator with the Denver Broncos that will be considered.
This means that the next head coach will be from the outside. Some names have already been linked to the Denver Broncos.
As reported by Adam Schefter and later confirmed by John Elway, the team has requested to interview Atlanta Falcons’ offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan for the job.
Currently, the Falcons are on their first round bye after securing the No. 2 seed in the NFC.

Other coaching candidates that have been linked to the Broncos include Vance Joseph (Dolphins defensive coordinator) and Scott Linehan (Cowboys Offensive Coordinator)
It will be interesting to see where John Elway and the staff go. But my biggest thing for the Denver Broncos’ new head coach is to retain Wade Phillips.
This is going to be an interesting search Broncos Country. Stick with us as we will keep you updated on all things regarding this offseason.
