Denver Broncos: John Elway’s 2nd Best Roster Move
After Peyton Manning retired riding off into the sunset with a Super Bowl 50 victory for the Denver Broncos. John Elway now must find a face of the franchise.
John Elway’s offseason consisted of numerous priorities. However, number one became clear and concise after the performance by Denver Broncos pass rush linebacker Von Miller in the playoffs. Miller turned in one of the more remarkable postseasons in NFL history. Once the playoffs started, Miller turned it up a notch.
In three games against the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers, Miller totaled 5.0 sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles. He played like a man possessed earning Super Bowl 50 MVP trophy for his play against Cam Newton and the offensive line. In case you forgot….
Miller’s postseason performance made him the number one priority heading in to free agency. Keeping Malik Jackson and Danny Trevathan would have been great, but Elway did not allow talent of Miller testing the market. Miller signed an extension with the Broncos making him the highest paid player not named a quarterback. Miller is now the face of the franchise with Peyton Manning retiring.

It is appropriate for Miller to be franchise’s best player since he was the first player ever drafted by Elway. Miller is a game-changing talent that is finally reaching the level consistency Broncos have needed for a long time. Once the off-field antics were under control, Miller became a better person.
Miller has an extremely quick first step and talent to break a offensive line coach’s game plan. The Patriots saw this first hand in the 2015 AFC Championship game. Miller destroyed the right tackle of the Patriots and any offensive line in his way resulting in the firing of the Patriots’ offensive line coach.
Furthermore, this signing of Miller could be flipped to number one best roster move made by Elway. However, a legend came to Denver changing the entire culture and gave the Broncos that winning/postseason attitude the team saw briefly under Tim Tebow.
