CJ Anderson provided a strike to the hearts of the Carolina Panthers in week one.

Anderson plays the game like his favorite off the field sport, bowling. He is the bowling ball and the defenders are the pins.

During the 2015 season, Anderson dealt with numerous injuries sidelining him for half the year. It was imperative for him to start the first frame of the season in how he finished in 2015. Anderson was awarded his contract extension of four years, $16 million in the offseason making him the Broncos feature back in 2016.

Anderson proved to Elway and the rest of the front office to prove he earned his contract. Head Coach Gary Kubiak sees Anderson in the best condition right now as a runner.

“I think his stamina is much better than it was last year. I think C.J. is challenged to be on the field more and stay on the field all the downs he possibly can,” Kubiak on Anderson’s stamina.

To be an every down running back in the NFL, Anderson must prove he can be on the field for 50 plays. If week one is any indication of they type of season he will have, the ex-California
Golden Bear may see the versatility as a receiver and bulldozing runner take shape. Anderson took the first step finishing with 139 total yards against the Panthers.

“Come out a game and play 50 plays instead of 35-40. I think that’s where we’re heading. I think C.J. has accepted the challenge to become a better player. From a consistency standpoint, and all those things, he just improved,” Kubiak sees improvement in Anderson.

Every game, Anderson wears a Sonic jersey under his Broncos uniform. His health in week one makes him a faster runner with a full head of steam. Anderson forces defensive backs to think twice about absorbing contact with him and turn on the . He is proving to be the bowling ball runner and one-cut back necessary for the Kubiak system.

For Anderson that mentality took shape before the regular season began.

“If I break one out and score early, it lets everyone know I am ready to play those 60 or 70 plays, to do what I know I can do,” Anderson said.

Take notice Indianapolis. CJ Anderson will bowl a second strike in his second frame.
