Unfortunately for Trevor Siemian, this is the play everyone’s talking about after his first start in an NFL game:

I don’t think it’s fair to judge Siemian based on this throw, but there was a visible difference in his confidence after that interception.

It was a bad read, and way too easy of a play for 49ers safety Eric Reid. That type of play won’t fly in the regular season, but after two preseason game and all of training camp, I think the Broncos have to keep rolling with Siemian. He showed in this game and the last — despite the pick-six — that he probably has the ability to best keep this team in contention while Paxton Lynch gets hold of the offense.

Siemian wasn’t perfect on the night, but one bad pass was a big smudge on an otherwise decent night for him. The Broncos’ first drive for a touchdown was nearly flawless. There weren’t many risks taken down the field, which was disappointing to see, but Siemian mostly made smart decisions with the ball and ran the offense very well.

Head coach Gary Kubiak talked about the competition between Siemian and Sanchez:

“They both have done some good things. Obviously we’re coming out of this one game, so we’re talking about some turnovers that we have to go get fixed. If you’re not turning the ball over, and moving the ball the way we moved it, I’d be a lot happier right now and hopefully the result would have been better. We have to hang on to the good things they do, because they are both doing some really good things. We also have to find a way to protect the game and protect the ball. What is it now? Four turnovers in two weeks? We can’t have that.”
