It is simple. Mark Sanchez has to be better in taking care of the ball and his decision making for him to win the job. Sanchez threw passes away when they needed to be on the rush, but he continued to work against the No Fly Zone and Orange Rush defense. While it is hard for any quarterback to throw against that defense, he will have to perform better for him to win the job.

Sanchez performed well in this type of offense in the early career with the Jets and in college for the USC Trojans. It goes with out saying; Sanchez will have a better wide receiver corps than any he has had in his stint in the NFL. There seems to be a nice rapport between he and Demaryius Thomas in camp lately, which is nice to see. However, Sanchez needs to establish that same relationship with Emmanuel Sanders and Cody Latimer to win the job.

If this is Sanchez’s last shot as a starting quarterback in the NFL, he is not running away with it in camp. For Sanchez, to win the job, it will be in the preseason games. The Bears game was a good start; however, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch played equal if not better on plays continuing to add more competition to the position.

It may be in Sanchez as a turnover machine, but that has to be alarming for head coach Gary Kubiak who named him co-starter to Trevor Siemian just before the Bears preseason game. Named co-starter only reiterates that Sanchez is not running away with the competition. If Sanchez is head and shoulders above the others, he would be starting the second preseason game against San Francisco on Saturday and against Carolina in week one.

Sanchez can still win the job, but these last two preseason games and 49ers scrimmage have to be crisp and clear for him to win the job handily.
