The Denver Broncos’ defense put on a clinic in Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bears. And it was not just the first team doing all of the work.

The Denver Broncos defense had a spectacular 2015 season, which led to the Super Bowl championship last year. And it looks as if they did not lose a step at all during the first game since winning the Lombardi Trophy in February.

Wade Phillips provided a solid game plan that led to a shutout victory over the Chicago Bears. What made the defensive shutout even more impressive was that no matter if it was the first team or the second team or beyond that, the Broncos defense feasted on the Bears offense.

According to Cameron Wolfe, the Denver Broncos defense allowed zero points, 66 total yards, recorded seven sacks, and allowed an average of less than two yards per play.

Those numbers are unheard of. I am still in shock reading all of those numbers.

What impressed me the most in that game was the safety blitzes from T.J. Ward and Will Parks in that game. It was like seeing a cannonball rocket out at full speed and hitting the quarterback with full force.

The defense was even able to record a safety at the beginning of the second half, when Dekota Watson, who is playing for a spot on the roster, sacked quarterback David Fales in the end zone.

Let us also not forget that the defense was without Von Miller, Demarcus Ware, Aqib Talib, and Chris Harris Jr.

The fact that those four key players were not on the field and the defense played that well, it is beyond incredible. Imagine this defense if they had played.

It is only preseason, but I am already impressed with what this defense has done in the first game of this preseason. Let us see if they can keep it up next Saturday when they play the San Francisco 49ers in the second preseason game and the first game at home.
