In a special edition of my observations, there will also be two positional previews of the Broncos preseason game Thursday night against Chicago. The team had their lightest work of the day and rightfully so, as the team continues to prepare their first game since winning the Super Bowl in February.

Ty Sambrailo’s injury could place the ex-CSU Ram on the roster bubble if his elbow remains an issue during the preseason and into the early in the season. Darrion Weems seems to be receiving the bulk of the first team reps in his supposed place on the offensive line. Weems, Connor McGovern and Michael Schofield will see reps at the guard spot in the preseason.

Devontae Booker was drafted out of Utah to push all the current running backs on the roster. It was unsure how he would be eased in the offense after suffering a minor meniscus tear in his knee that sidelined him for an entire season. Booker’s knee appears to be just fine, as he is having a terrific camp challenging incumbent backup Ronnie Hillman for his spot.

Broncos will play the Bears Thursday night as the team continues to push for more congruency on the roster. There needs to be more consistent movement in the quarterback situation among Mark Sanchez, Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch. The team announced today that Sanchez will start the first quarter followed by Siemian in the second and Lynch, the entire second half. This is where Lynch can move ever closer to the starting job.

The replacement is another position that has my eye entering the game against Chicago. Broncos are looking at Todd Davis, Corey Nelson and Zaire Anderson to replace the star linebacker in Trevathan. Davis is the projected starter; however the play from Anderson last year in the preseason could continue to make this an interesting battle to watch all throughout the games. Corey Nelson is the backup to Brandon Marshall on the depth chart and is the likely backup to Davis. Yet, both Nelson and Anderson have seen their roles expand on defense.

Next: Guard Darrion Weems
