Karl Mecklenburg

Another key member to the Denver Broncos defense, Karl Mecklenburg had quite a successful career in his ten years with the Broncos. I happen to just miss his time with the Broncos as he called it a career in 1994, when I was 4-5 years old.

Mecklenburg was drafted back when the NFL Draft had more than seven rounds. He was drafted in the 12th round of the 1983 draft. It was the same draft in which John Elway was drafted with the First overall pick. In fact, Mecklenburg was one of the final draft picks of the draft that year.

Despite his low draft number, he played such a huge part to the Super Bowl appearances for the Broncos during the 1980s. He recorded 1,118 tackles and 79.5 sacks. He also recorded five interceptions.

During his career, he went to six Pro Bowls and was named a First-team All-Pro four times. Another Broncos player who had a great career despite where he was drafted or undrafted.

The one thing that surprises me is that some of the members of the defense of the 1970s and 80s team are not in the Hall of Fame. What is up with that?
