Broncos Country can R-E-L-A-X– relax. Friday morning, the Broncos and Superbowl MVP linebacker Von Miller finally came to an agreement giving Miller the richest, non-QB contract in NFL history, and trumped by only the contract of Andrew Luck’s overall.
Yes, this is a great day for the Broncos, and an even better day for Von Miller, who has said that he wasn’t just interested in his bank account, but interested in changing the entire landscape of how elite defenders are paid. It is fair to say with this landmark deal, he has done just that.
So how did Miller and the Broncos get to this place? Well, it certainly wasn’t all roses, as the past month and a half of these negotiations have been contentious, and at times, downright ugly.

Within that month and a half, we have had Von taking to social media and cropping out John Elway from pictures, stating that he absolutely will not play under the prohibitive franchise tag, talking about being “hurt” by John Elway’s “championship tactics,” and we’ve had a nice encounter with a very much inebriated John Elway, who may not have really known what he was saying anyways. So what lessons can each side learn from these negotiations?
