After losing Terrance Knighton, there were questions as to which Sylvester Williams show up since Knighton left last offseason. Williams passed that early test with flying colors; however, the Broncos made it clear they would not pick up his fifth year option.

Williams made himself into a physical defensive/nose tackle pushing himself for a hefty pay day in the 2017 offseason. Contract years will always get the most out of a player’s potential, but this year is extra important for Williams and that vaunted Broncos defensive line.

The run stuffing Williams saw his sack total rise by half a sack making himself a rounded defensive linemen. An underrated part of his game is sucking up double teams to open doors for his teammates. Williams will see more of the same in 2016 under Wade Phillips as everyone on the defense saw their potential and production reach new limits.

Unclear what type of deal Williams will be searching for in 2016-2017, but the likelihood of him staying does not look good since the Broncos decided to not pick up his fifth year option. In a perfect world, Broncos would love to keep everyone on their defense in tact. Williams was upset over the Broncos not picking up that option and do not see that changing once the contract talks start.
