When the Broncos think of unsung MVPs of the Broncos, fans will say CJ Anderson and Brandon McManus. Rightfully so, but during the Orange Rush year of terrific defensive play, Darian Stewart emerged as a prime candidate for a healthy pay day.

The priorities of Von Miller, Brandon Marshall and Emmanuel Sanders to contract extensions will make it difficult to sign him in the offseason; however, the Broncos should do everything they can to ink the safety. Stewart had his best year ever with the Broncos performing key hits in important drives that would stall opposing offenses.

Versatility of Stewart as a playmaker and a physical safety reached new heights last season, which resulted in him as a fan favorite. Wade Phillips always gets the best out of his players and Stewart was no exception. Stewart had 10 pass deflections, two fumble recoveries and one interception in fifteen games last year.

Both he and TJ Ward played off one another making it hard for a quarterback’s targets to move sideline to sideline without getting punished. Broncos would like to sign Stewart long term and he will be a priority next offseason or during the season for a contract.

Ward signed a four-year deal worth $23 million with $14 million guaranteed. If the Broncos can put Stewart name on that contract, it would be a victory for both sides.
