The Denver Broncos are in year two of Gary Kubiak’s offense. Demaryius Thomas is excited to see where it can go now that the majority of the skill players have a year under their belts.

When it comes to learning a new offense, it can be a tricky thing. With Peyton Manning at the helm, the Broncos focused mostly on passing the ball, which benefited receivers like Demaryius Thomas. However, with Gary Kubaik’s offense, he focuses on the zone blocking scheme and running the ball.

That in turn could impact numbers for receivers. But it appears as if Demaryius Thomas is not phased by that at all. In fact, he is excited to see what the offense will provide in year two.

The Denver Broncos are set to go on a bit of a summer vacation before they report to Dove Valley for Training Camp. The dates for the training camp have yet to be determined, but if history serves any purpose, it will most likely begin near the end of July.

However, Demaryius Thomas told the younger guys to make sure that they stay focused and continue to learn the playbook.

Some of the younger guys, you still have to. They’ve never done it before. They come to work and talk about how difficult-especially on the offensive side of the ball. The main thing is to come back in shape and be in your playbook.”

This is especially true. Being able to learn the playbook and be in shape is the first step into becoming successful in the league. There are a few players that will be looking to fill in the holes left by players who are no longer on the team, so those two objectives are critical.

When asked about how comfortable he was in the new offense, Demaryius Thomas believes this could be the time to bounce back.

Very comfortable. We put some new stuff in and I have been getting reps. The difficult part about it last year was that they threw everything at me at once. The timing was just off, but now that I am here, the timing will be better.”

Thomas did miss the beginning of the offseason work due to the contract dispute. However, they both came up with a deal before training camp. Especially since it was a new offense, I can understand why he struggled last year because he was a step behind everyone that attended OTA’s and minicamp last year.

It is good to see that Demaryius Thomas has a better grip on the offense this offseason. Perhaps he is primed for a breakout year in 2016. But we will not know until the season begins and is off and running.

He also believes the offense will be much improved in 2016 despite the uncertainty at quarterback.

The first year was tough because you’re just used to throwing the ball the past four years. Now that it is our second year in it and the guys that have been brought into it to fit the offense, I am looking forward to it.”

We are very excited to see what this offense has in store for 2016. Hopefully there will be much improvement like Demaryius Thomas stated. Keep it here at Predominantly Orange as we keep you up to date on the events that take place before training camp begins.
