The Denver Broncos have started contract talks with Emmanuel Sanders and Brandon Marshall. Sanders is a free agent after next season and Marshall was given a second round tender and both players are due for an extension.
Sanders, right now, is the best wide receiver on the Broncos and underrated as well in the NFL’s current list of elite wide receivers. Demaryius Thomas has seen his production drop the last couple seasons, which has increased Sanders’ role. Sanders averaged close to 1,300 yards in his short time with the franchise and it seems to be growing by every season. The dynamic duo of Sanders and Thomas is still one of the best in the NFL making it easy for a quarterback to feel at ease knowing Sanders and Thomas is on both sides of the ball. Sanders sees himself getting better.
“In my eyes, I just feel like I’ve just got to keep climbing and keep proving myself. That’s what it’s about. It’s a journey, not a spring. Hopefully I just keep climbing,” Sanders on how he can continue to improve.
Marshall is the best linebacker on the Broncos and better than new Chicago Bear, Danny Trevathan. Everything Marshall does seems to be better than Trevathan. Both Trevathan and Marshall have elite cover skills as a linebacker and Pro-Bowl level talent to stuff the run acquiring an incredible amount of tackles. Marshall and Trevathan would always compete with each other for tackles (Marshall had 95 in 2014 and 76 in 2014). Now, Trevathan cannot take the tackles, only leading to close to 110 tackles every year. Head Coach Gary Kubiak sees a terrific player in Brandon Marshall and states the contract talks are between front office and Marshall.
“I know they’ve been working on that. What a player. What a leader. He’s participating in everything we’re doing except when we get to competing a little bit,” Kubiak on Marshall’s leadership and contract.
It is unclear whom the Broncos have as their number one priority, but the team has now entered talks with two players instrumental in the offense and the “Orange Rush” defense. One thing is for sure, the Sanders and Marshall will bring the “Rocky Mountain Thunder” this season.
